Job Role:
To assess, diagnose and devise support for a caseload of students, delivering Speech and Language Therapy
To provide intervention and evaluate evidence-based outcomes for both individuals and groups of students. This will include developing programmes for students with speech, language and communication needs and SEMH
Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with teaching and other staff and parents, providing assessment, training and therapy programmes
Lead and manage the Speech and Language service across the college group
Responsibilities:
- Stay up-to-date with sector best practices around supporting those with Speech and Language Therapy (SaLT) needs.
- Provide training, support, and advice to staff on best practices.
- Devise and develop systems and processes to ensure high-quality SaLT service.
- Identify and engage with issues and practices requiring improvement within the SaLT service.
- Provide advice and guidance on SaLT-related matters, including best practices, government guidance, and sector updates.
- Collaborate with external partners and stakeholders, such as Local Authorities, multidisciplinary teams, families, and out-of-borough teams.
- In partnership with relevant directors, quality assure the provision of SaLT and recommend actions to improve the service.
- Line-manage cross-institution Speech and Language Therapists.
- Identify the training and development needs of SaLT staff.
- Contribute to staff development and other training programs.
- Ensure new staff are trained on best practices around SaLT support.
- Support the institution’s mission, vision, values, and strategic objectives.
- Implement the institution’s Equality and Diversity policies and actively work to overcome discrimination on grounds of protected characteristics.
- Take responsibility for one’s own professional development and participate in relevant internal and external activities.
Person Specification/Qualifications
- Degree in Speech and Language Therapy approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
- Attained English and Maths Level 2/GCSE (Grade 4 or above).
- Member of the RCSLT and registered with the HCPC.
- Experienced in line managing others.
- Experience and understanding of supporting learners with additional learning needs.
- Proven ability to work in an educational setting with students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, preferably in a Post 16 environment.
- Experienced in delivering engaging and interactive support and training sessions for staff and students.
- Experienced in working with students with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), chairing Annual Reviews, and completing EHCP consultations.
- Knowledge and experience of direct Speech and Language Therapy with young people, students, and families with various needs.
