ROLE PURPOSE
This role involves delivering high-quality, instructor-led training sessions, as well as providing both on-the-job and off-the-job support, teaching, learning, and assessment to help apprentices successfully meet gateway requirements and complete their Mechatronics Maintenance Technician Level 3 apprenticeship.
You will develop training content aligned with the Mechatronics Maintenance Technician apprenticeship standard, ensuring that it meets qualification requirements and effectively delivers the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed for apprentices to excel.
Tracking apprentice progress, offering structured feedback, and providing coaching (both in-person and via online platforms like Teams) will be key to supporting their timely and successful completion of the program.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Deliver high-quality apprenticeship training, ensuring apprentices and their employers benefit from a positive learning experience with strong outcomes.
Follow ESFA funding guidelines for apprentice sign-up and onboarding, ensuring compliance with eligibility checks and audit documentation.
Provide structured induction sessions, helping apprentices navigate OneFile and understand program expectations.
Develop employer partnerships and strengthen industry engagement within the engineering and manufacturing sectors.
Deliver engaging, practical training sessions covering core Mechatronics Maintenance topics, such as mechanical, electrical/electronic, fluid power, control systems, and predictive maintenance strategies.
Assess apprentice work and provide detailed, constructive feedback in line with assessment policies.
Conduct regular one-on-one progress reviews, tracking milestones and offering support with assignments.
Deliver specialist training to stretch and challenge apprentices in automation, robotics, and smart maintenance systems.
Develop and update training content, ensuring it is engaging, industry-relevant, and aligned with apprenticeship standards.
Use initial and diagnostic assessments to create individual learning plans and provide tailored support.
Motivate and inspire apprentices by setting high standards, offering clear learning goals, and supporting professional development.
Identify apprentices at risk of disengagement, implementing early interventionstrategies to improve retention and providing access to pastoral support when needed.
Lead the design, planning, and implementation of the Mechatronics MaintenanceTechnician apprenticeship program, staying actively involved in CPD (Continuing Professional Development) to maintain expertise.
Maintain accurate records in OneFile e-portfolio, ensuring timely feedback and progress tracking.
Reinforce the importance of maths and English skills, ensuring apprentices develop these key competencies alongside their technical training.
Stay informed on the latest technological advancements and industry best practices related to Mechatronics Maintenance.
Mentor and support new trainers, allowing them to observe sessions and offering constructive feedback.
Conduct internal quality assurance (IQA) and peer observations, ensuring high teaching standards across the apprenticeship program.
Keep up to date with Ofsted’s Education Inspection Framework, ensuring program quality and inspection readiness.
Provide career advice and industry guidance, participating in STEM community events, open evenings, and employer engagement initiatives to promote career pathways in Mechatronics and Engineering.
Ensure compliance with health & safety, safeguarding, and equality policies, following appropriate reporting procedures when necessary.
Person Specification
Qualifications:
Degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English
Teaching and/or Assessor Qualification (or willingness to obtain one)
A Master’s or PhD in a relevant engineering discipline (desirable but not essential)
Experience:
Minimum of 4 years of industry experience in Mechatronics, Maintenance Engineering, or related technical fields
Experience in teaching, assessing, or training apprentices or employees in a technical environment
Key Skills & Competencies:
Strong understanding of Mechatronics systems, including mechanical, electrical, fluid power, automation, and control technologies
Ability to adapt teaching methods to suit different learning styles and abilities
Curriculum design expertise with the ability to develop engaging training materials
Knowledge of Apprenticeship Standards and funding processes
Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends
Strong administrative skills for tracking apprentice progress effectively
Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with employers and industry stakeholders
Solid understanding of safeguarding, equality, and health & safety regulations in the workplace
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
Self-motivated, adaptable, and capable of working both independently and collaboratively
