In apprenticeship and skills recruitment, a good job description isn’t just paperwork. It’s your first sales pitch to the people you actually want to hire.
Too many job descriptions are recycled from the last time someone recruited the role – duties added, responsibilities never removed and enough corporate jargon to make even the perfect candidate lose interest.
The best candidates have choices. Your job description needs to tell them quickly: Why this role? Why this organisation? Why now?
A strong job description should clearly explain the role, expectations, salary, flexibility, progression and – importantly – what makes your organisation different.
And before you press go, run it past your specialist recruiter.
At National Skills Agency, we spend every day talking to people across the apprenticeship, training and skills sector. We know what Assessors, Tutors, BDMs, Quality professionals and senior leaders are looking for – and what makes them scroll straight past a vacancy.
Sometimes a small change in job title, salary, wording, location expectations or responsibilities can significantly change the candidate pool.
Recruitment shouldn’t start when the CVs arrive. It starts with getting the brief right.
So before advertising your next apprenticeship or training vacancy, give your recruiter the job description and ask one simple question:
“Would you apply for this?”
If the answer isn’t an immediate yes, your ideal candidate probably won’t either.
