Our client is seeking a motivated and resilient Health & Social Care Tutor to join their team, supporting learners aged 16–18 and young adults aged 19–24 with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

You will plan and deliver lessons, monitor learner progress, assess achievement and help learners develop the knowledge and skills needed for further education, employment and adulthood.

  • Assessor qualification and relevant assessment experience. Support may be available to obtain appropriate teaching or assessing qualifications where required.

Main duties and responsibilities

Teaching and learning

  • Plan, prepare and deliver Health & Social Care lessons at Entry Level 3 and Level 1, creating engaging schemes of work and appropriately challenging activities.
  • Adapt lesson plans and resources to meet individual learner needs, including those identified in EHCPs, and identify literacy, numeracy and ICT support requirements.
  • Deliver differentiated learning activities, enrichment projects and effective group work, using technology to enhance engagement and knowledge retention.
  • Provide individual guidance and support, working effectively with Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) to promote learner participation, independence and achievement.
  • Manage behaviour in line with our client’s policies and procedures, seeking support from the Centre Manager when necessary.
  • Mark work, conduct ongoing assessments, maintain learner portfolios and ensure evidence meets awarding body requirements.

Learner progress and administration

  • Monitor and record learner progress using the appropriate tracking, assessment and reporting systems.
  • Set SMART targets that support academic achievement, personal development and EHCP outcomes.
  • Conduct individual progress reviews and maintain accurate, up-to-date learner records.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, carers, external agencies and relevant professionals to support learner outcomes.
  • Participate in meetings, open days, events, colleague cover and Ofsted inspections as required.

Professional development and quality

  • Complete the induction programme and undertake relevant continuing professional development (CPD), particularly in SEND, EHCP processes and inclusive teaching.
  • Keep up to date with curriculum developments, teaching methods and educational research, reflecting on practice to improve learner outcomes.
  • Attend standardisation meetings and work with the Quality team to ensure teaching, assessment and curriculum delivery meet required standards and the Education Inspection Framework.

Additional responsibilities

  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with applicable data protection legislation, including UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, including a willingness to travel to other work locations when required. Duties may be reviewed to reflect changing operational needs.
