Description

Our client is looking for someone who will be able to provide a speech and language assessment, support and intervention service for a caseload of children and young people with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) and other diagnoses such as Autism in school settings and in the community. They are looking for someone to work in close collaboration with teachers, teaching assistants, parents and other agencies/services, and to be able to make independent clinical decisions (where appropriate). 

 

You will be supported within the team as a Band 5 or 6 speech and language therapist who will be a valuable resource and advisor on the support and management of pupils with SLCN. You will receive high levels of support to be able to will work closely with the SENDCOs and teachers to actively promote the company’s policy positive outcomes for children with SLCN. We will support you to complete your RCSLT competencies framework (if needed) and will give you regular support, supervision and guidance in your clinical practice. 

 

What do we need?

 

Well, some things are non-negotiable… We need someone who has an appropriate degree or post graduate qualification and licence to practice as recognised by the Health Care Professions Council. You’ll also need to be a registered member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists. 

 

Outside of qualifications and experience, we want someone who is genuinely passionate about Speech & Language Therapy, someone who really cares about their work and the people they work with. You’ll ideally be a good communicator and will want to make a difference in everything you do.

 

Your main responsibilities will include: 

 

  • To deliver dynamic and engaging speech and language therapy interventions to pupils with SLCN. 
  • To assess children’s speech and language needs and produce reports to share with parents and school teams. 
  • To deliver training to parents and members of school staff on a range of topics (Supported by a Band 7 therapist where needed) 
  • To work with the schools’ Inclusion Teams to ensure high outcomes for the pupils with SLCN. 
  • To undertake a continuous review of each individual pupil’s speech and language progress and overall provision and report to the Company Director regularly regarding this. 
  • To liaise closely with teachers and teaching assistants in curriculum planning, target setting and the development of resources. 
  • To provide advice, support and modelling for parents and carers and other family members, and to respond to their needs in the context of the individual child as well as based on a wider knowledge of language development and difficulties.
